about

Before turning to ceramics, Juliette Teste worked for image departments of couture houses such as Dior and Saint Laurent.

Her ceramic practice is informed by her training in applied arts at Ecole Duperré, drawing from her knowledge of styles, periods and genres to create pieces that feel as innovative as they are timeless.

Whether from Chinese culture or the aesthetic of Greek ruins, Teste amalgamates different forms and influences, often instinctively and playfully. This results in striking, experimental forms that are filled with historical allusion and yet unrestrained by formal conventions.

Teste’s practice reflects her fascination for the relationship between objects and time : how an antique can retain the same freshness as on the day of its creation.

She often creates pieces that are related to the idea of the rite, of celebration, of the moment in time. Harnessing the power of colour – a central component in her process – Teste also builds her own palettes of enamels. From muted ashy tones to pastels and faux noirs, she is interested in their alchemical qualities.

Teste lives and works in Paris and Le Pré St Gervais
